When a passion for heritage becomes a way of life

Murielle and Olivier Fruton – a committed vision in service of Martinique’s heritage

The Domaine de la Trace is driven by a passionate couple, Murielle and Olivier Fruton, whose journey is inseparable from their deep commitment to safeguarding and promoting Martinique’s heritage.

This project was born of Murielle’s intimate connection with this historic place. As a child, she roamed the nearby paths with her father, arms filled with flowers and vegetables gathered in the forest, her eyes fixed on this wooden house that already kindled a silent dream. That dream became reality when, together with her husband, she decided to buy the forgotten building, swallowed by decades of vegetation.

Rather than seeing a ruin, they saw a heritage treasure to protect and pass on. Where others might have chosen demolition, they opted for patient, authentic restoration respecting the original materials, rallying a broad community of Martinicans and culture enthusiasts around them.

Murielle and Olivier Fruton are not merely owners.

They are active defenders of local heritage, convinced that every wall, every stone, every trace of the past deserves preservation to enrich the future.

Their action goes beyond simple renovation: they strive to make the Domaine de la Trace a hub of cultural, tourist and environmental appeal, rooted in collective memory yet turned towards innovation (immersive visits, cultural events, eco‑responsible accommodation…).

Today, thanks to their determination and support from initiatives such as the Bern Mission and the Heritage Lottery, the Domaine de la Trace stands as a model restoration serving Martinique, its history and its influence.

Protect, enhance, transmit: these are the values guiding every decision taken by Murielle and Olivier Fruton. And with this vision they open the doors of a unique place where heritage meets modernity.

Louis Emmanuel Rimbaud – The man who dared to defy his time

A visionary entrepreneur, generous humanist and central figure in Martinique’s history, Louis Emmanuel Rimbaud left his mark through boldness and commitment.

His house, set in the heart of the tropical forest, was once a place of secret decisions, quiet courage and collective momentum.

Now carefully restored, it invites you to a unique, immersive, vibrant experience at the Domaine de la Trace.
